Development of Title Sequence - Background Footage

The background footage for my title sequence i am proud of as a second attempt at a project in adobe after effects. Footage is based on a range of different cells as this relates to the film.
Here is some raw video footage before i editted them.

I used a number of masks to create darkness within the footage, i found this to be easy and i took advantage of using the masks in the rest of the footage. This is the footage before i editted it.

The footage below is what im quite happy with although i find it abit too dark, but never the less it fits with the title sequence. I added a tritone and tint effect and put some masks over it. I think if i was to improve this i would just maybe make it a little lighter or add a glow effect.

Development of Title Sequence - Text

One thing that made me really happy with the title sequence is the font which i used and the way i animated it.

In the image above you will see how and which effects on the title i used and use of the muggler, i found this quite complicated to use at first, but i soon got the hang of it and it became really simple, i used these effects with all of the text credits, i used the "Chiller" font.

When i completed my text without the footage in the background, here is what it looked like.

Final Edit of Title Sequence

Today i completed my final edit of my title sequence. I think that this hasn't turned out the way i first pictured it in my head but I am very happy with how it has turned out and the soundtrack fitted over the top well.  If i could improve i would use more accurate footage of things and neaten up effects.

Development of Title Sequence - Squid

For my title sequence i'm animating a squid to move, with a dark background having it being slowly revealed by a spotlight. This relates to my film influence as the alien creature has similar body parts that look the same as a squids, only bigger.

To the right is the image i have used only i have cropped away the body and kept the legs/gilesas that is the part i am going to animate. In photoshop i cut the picture to create layers as for the bits i want to animate, as you can see i removed the background and added a black one and used to magic wand tool to get rid of the gaps in between each leg.
i have then burnt the edges to create a show for a more 3D effect.

I then imported the photoshop file to After effects so that i could begin editing it using numerous effects such as liquidify and turbulance displacement to create the kind of waviness of the legs itsself.
I also used masks to add blur and more dark areas to the image.

After adding a tritone and noise to it, all that was left is to control the spotlight and make it slowly reveal the moving parts. i added key frames and directed it diagonal, i added these effects in individual adjustment layers.

Here is the finished footage.

Title Credits Test

This text is an idea as to how i want my text to appear on screen when the project is finished for each credit.
I created this by using key frames on the transformation(scaling) of the text and adding a visual glow and a radial blur, adding more effect to them with the wiggler tool. There is a lot of room for improvement as i think the text shouldn't come flying on screen so much because it doesn't seem very horrorish but i am quite happy with the development so far.

Influences to my Title Sequence

I have decided that my title sequence graphic is going to be based on the movie called "The Thing".
After researching a couple of video's based on the movie's title sequence, i have came to a final idea as to how i going to create it and what it's going to include.

Here is the original opening of the film, as the film is quite old, there isn't much to it and its quite simple but the burning effect of the title is really drawn to me, i think its very impressive considering it was made in 1982. so i've decided that i am going to recreate this and add it to my own version as a kind of dedication.

This influences me because i really like the whole biological side of it and while watching this, it makes you wonder whats actually being shown, so its gave me the idea to use the cells dividing effect as this relates to film in a huge way and i really like the idea of liquids dripping off walls or even mixing different colours in water to transform into one colour, this also relates to the film because there is a lot of transformation in the film.
I am also going to use the same music as used in the original film because it fits very well but also i may add a little horror sounds to give it more a creepy effect.
